People often ask the question what is Visual Communication and Graphic Design? When you wake in the morning and pick up your phone, turn on your television, even when opening your cupboard to decide what breakfast to eat you are having an interaction with some form of visual communication. It used to be just called graphic design but the areas of expertise just kept growing. It is a vast creative landscape and unfortunately you can’t be good at everything even if people want you to be. Thats why we have associates that we can refer you to if needed.
John grew up in Clane, County Kildare, Ireland. After finishing school in 1995 he studied Art, Craft and Design in Newbridge through VTOS. For the next ten years he worked in a computer recycling company called Enviroserve belonging to Clane Local Development. By 2009 he was working for Icetech Ltd, building computer kiosks for internet access. This is where he first began working as part of a creative team in the design and manufacturing department.
In 2013 he began studying Graphic Design in BCFE where he won a competition for his design of an exhibition poster for Marshes Library. He went in advanced entry studying Visual Communications in NCAD. During this time he designed a poster with one of the founders of Design Factory, Conor Clarke and the multimedia Artist Russell Mills who has exhibited work internationally and is also known for his award winning album covers for the likes of Brian Eno, Nine Inch Nails, amongst many more.
After college he began working in CarveOn. The workshops charm and craftsmanship was matched by the beautiful personalised leather products they produced. Over the next three years John worked closely with the founding brothers Alan and Gary McCormack on a wide range or projects including product design and product photography.
During this time he worked with MadePersonal who specialise in manufacturing, sourcing and personalisation of a wide range of product. This was a great opportunity to work with a wider range of machinery such as UV printers, vinyl and laser cutters.
Recently John studied Digital Sculpting and 3D Modelling in IADT using ZBrush. He learnt how to design organic and hard surface 3D models with high levels of detail. After the course ended he has began creating sculptures and printing on 3D resin printers.
